We work on research and consultancy projects involving soil, water, nutrients and vegetation. Each project begins with a practical question and combines the methods and expertise needed to understand the system and develop useful outcomes.

From products and plants to landscapes

Our projects range from controlled product research and greenhouse experiments to long-term studies in agriculture, turf, dikes and ecological landscapes.

Although the applications differ, they share the same foundation: understanding how environmental processes interact and translating that knowledge into practical value.

This helps explain why the projects are broad without making the company feel unfocused.

Soil Cracking in Dikes and Slopes

Which soil processes cause cracks to form during drought?

We investigated how physical and chemical soil properties contribute to desiccation cracking in dikes and slopes. The research helps water authorities understand where cracking may threaten slope stability and how the risk can be reduced.

Nitrogen Leaching in Turf Systems

How can nitrogen losses from intensively managed turf be prevented?

For BSNC, we quantified nitrogen leaching from natural and hybrid turf under intensive fertilisation and rainfall. The study identified when losses occur and how fertilisation and water management can be improved to minimise leaching in practice.

Dike Topsoil Design in Singapore

How can a vegetated topsoil be developed on a highly compacted dike core?

We advised on soil properties, clay behaviour and topsoil construction. The aim was to create a topsoil layer compatible with the compacted core while providing suitable conditions for stable vegetation development.

ARVIOR Development and Validation

How can field data be translated into reliable decision support?

We collect growing-season data from crops such as potato and onion, as well as from grasslands and dikes. These measurements are used to develop and validate ARVIOR’s soil, water, nutrient and plant-growth models, with the ultimate goal of providing practical decision support for environmental management.

La Muñequita Agroforestry Costa Rica

How can a diverse tropical farm become both resilient and economically viable?

We helped develop a mixed agroforestry system with cacao, plantain, pineapple, citrus and other tropical fruits. Our work included water and nutrient planning, composting and chop-and-drop management for a low-input, circular farm.

FutureDikes I

Can biodiverse vegetation make dikes stronger and more resilient?

Future Dikes investigates how soil, vegetation, roots, drought and management influence dike strength and biodiversity. Through field experiments and monitoring, we develop practical strategies for resilient and ecologically valuable flood defences.
